BEFORE OPERATION

Before surgery, your surgeon will discuss with you your medical history, including whether you’ve had a lump removed from your breast or have any other medical conditions that affect your breasts. Your surgeon will also ask about your family’s medical history.

The surgeon will x-ray your chest and examine them before surgery.

The surgeon may take photos of your breasts, measure them, and discuss with you your perceptions of the outcome of the operation.

Your doctor will ask you to quit smoking for a period before and after the operation and to stop taking some medications such as aspirin and anti-inflammatories.

DURING OPERATION

The breast lift surgery procedure takes about 3 hours, with general anesthesia.

There are three common incision patterns, your doctor will recommend the best choice for you.

In the first method, your plastic surgeon makes an incision around the areola and vertically down from the areola to the breast crease.

In the second method, your surgeon makes an incision around the areola, vertically down from the breast crease and horizontally along the breast crease.

Then your doctor will reshape your breasts.

The excess breast skin is removed, and the underlying breast tissue is lifted and reshaped to improve breast contour and firmness.

The nipple and areola are repositioned to a natural, more youthful height.

Sutures are layered deep within the breast tissue to create and support the newly shaped breasts.

Some incision lines resulting from breast lift are concealed in the natural breast contours.

Many women desire the smallest scar possible. However, your plastic surgeon will recommend the incisions that best suit your anatomy.

AFTER OPERATION

The results of your breast lift surgery are immediately visible.

Post-surgery is usually comfortable and special medical bras are used.

If a breast prosthesis is used during surgery, there may be a limitation of arm movements for a few days.

Excess weight should not be lifted and too much force should be applied.

You can return to work and return to your normal life after a week.

Strenuous exercise should be avoided for at least one month after the surgery.

Breast lift recovery

You will be given specific instructions by your surgeon. You will be given an elastic bandage or a supportive bra to reduce swelling and support the breast as it heals.

You will take medicines taken orally to reduce the possibility of infection.
