Dental X-ray

X-rays allow the dentist to see detailed images of certain parts of your mouth to help diagnose problems that are not visible during a dental exam.

Usually, an X-ray is not needed at every visit to the dentist. The doctor will discuss your health condition and then decide based on the health of your mouth to take an x-ray x.

Oral cancer exam

The doctor will look for signs of oral cancer. He will examine the lower jaw, the sides of your neck, and the inside of your lips and cheeks.

Dental impression

In some cases, the dentist may recommend making a dental impression of one or both jaws. This can help the dentist assess your bite or make a mouthguard.

Results

After the examination, the dentist will discuss your oral health, including your risk of tooth decay, gum disease, and other oral problems.

The dentist will recommend a date for your second visit and will decide when. If you are at high risk for tooth decay or gum disease, your dentist may recommend frequent check-ups.
